FRANK TURNS CORNER ON SEASON
WITH CAREER-BEST ALL-PRO SERIES FINISH
HILTON HEAD S.C. (JUNE 17, 1999) - With the season mid-point upon the
NASCAR Slim Jim All-Pro Series, Rookie of the Year candidate A.J. Frank
charged to his career-best finish Saturday in the 7Up 250 at Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Frank, 24, of Hilton Head, S.C., charged from his 22nd starting position
on the grid to finish 12th in the 250-lap contest at the half-mile
Myrtle Beach Speedway. The finish marked a turning point for the No. 11
Millionaire Magazine/Fuel Clothing Pontiac team, which experienced some
new team teething problems in its first seven rounds of the 16-race Slim
Jim All-Pro Series.
"It was a tough 250 laps on a slippery track that we'd never seen
before," said Frank. "But the car worked great, in fact, it got better
as the race went on. The hard work that the team put in this week paid
off. This finish helps us forget some the bad luck we experienced early
this season.
Heading to Round Nine at Lanier National Speedway, Braselton, GA., Frank
sits 21st overall and ninth in Rookie points in the ultra-competitive
All-Pro Series, one of NASCAR's Top training grounds for young talent
with aspirations of reaching the upper echelons of stock car racing.
"We're not where we want to be in points, but we are getting the
necessary experience and look forward to a second look some of the
tracks we've already run at this year," said Frank. (Team owner and
Crew Chief) Jim Brinkley, the crew and I were all new to each other this
year and fortunately the newness has worn off and we're producing like a
team now.
"We look at the second half like it's a new season," he continued.
"The
team is eager to use the momentum from Myrtle Beach to have another top
finish at Lanier this weekend. I'm confident we'll be battling for race
wins before the season's end."
