Trying to Avoid Sophomore Jinx.

1998 Slim Jim All Pro "Rookie of the Year" and "Most Popular Driver", Scott Kilby and the Arndt & Herman Windows racing team are doing their best to avoid the "sophomore jinx". With two top tens, a pole award and eighth in series points after four events, Kilby feels even this is not a reflection of how well the team has performed. "They say your second year can be the toughest, but with the team and sponsor we have I feel we can overcome a lot of the obstacles we face this year" said Kilby, a two-time Hickory Motor Speedway track champion. "We have ran better than our stats show and the whole Arndt & Herman team has worked very well together".

The team ran in the top ten at the season opening event in Lakeland Florida, but the yellow number 45 finished fourteenth after receiving some mid-race damage. At St. Augustine, pit strategy may have cost them a better finish than the eighth they received. The biggest setback came at Greenville-Pickens. Kilby was running seventh with only ten laps to go, when the car was swept up in a wreck and had to settle for a twenty-third place finish. The team rebounded the next week to set the fast time and finish fourth at the high-banked Orange County Speedway in Rougemont NC.

"We do our best to work hard, make good decisions and never give up", Kilby added. "I have the best bunch of people behind me you could ask for and look forward to each and every event".

Scott Kilby and the Arndt & Herman Windows Racing Team set fast time at the Orange Co. Speedway Slim Jim All-Pro event Saturday night, May 1st. The only driver to break into the 13-second bracket, Kilby rounded the .375 mile oval in an eye opening 13.965 second lap.

"The team done a wonderful job" said Kilby. "We weren’t very good in practice and being we had to race on a qualifying set-up we knew we had to do something. Jason (crew chief Jason Greene), myself, and the rest of the team made the decision to go with a different combination. We changed a sway bar, shock, spring, crossweight as well as the track bar just before going through the tech line. We had no idea how good it would be. Sometimes it just seems to go your way."

This was the first career pole in the Slim Jim All Pro Series for the 1998 "Rookie of the Year" and "Most Popular Driver."
